In March 2023 Lia was asked to join the team (along with Artfiles and Trentino School of Management) to create a vision for how the cultural and natural resources of a small village (less than 200 inhabitants) in the mountains of Trentino, Italy, could be reactivated to provide opportunities for the local community to improve their quality of life, and generate alternative sources of growth and prosperity.

The Vision was commissioned by the regional authority thanks to funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Italy’s PNRR) launched by the European Union to complement the 2021-2027 Multi-annual Financial Framework (MFF) in the light of the economic and social consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lia’s role was to study the deep cultural, spatial, and social structure of this village with its unique language (Mocheno, now in danger of disappearing), together with its popular traditions rooted in agricultural, mining and metal-working activities, and to suggest fresh ideas for the regeneration of the currently depopulated village.

The process of drafting the Vision took six months, which involved active engagement with key local and regional stakeholders and the community, coupled with the study of relevant cases of initiatives aimed at the revitalization of minority and endangered languages.

A key element of the Vision is the creation of a unique immersive space dedicated to the celebration of global minority languages, with the name “The Ark of Languages”.
