The Summer Academy for Cultural and Creative Industries and Local Development (SACCI) started in 2018 to provide policymakers and practitioners with the tools to design innovative policies that respond to the needs of these industries. Each year, SACCI tackles a different theme, and invites policymakers and practitioners from around the world to share their experiences and learn from international experts in the field.

As for the previous six editions, Lia Ghilardi was asked to curate the programme, as well as facilitate and moderate keynote presentations. The seventh edition of the Academy, which took place in Trento between the 1st and the 4th of July, featured a mix of presentations and study visits to relevant local cultural & creative organisations as well as to heritage sites. During this edition, participants were also asked to take part in a peer review exercise to contribute comments and suggestions to the Trento Cultural Plan for the next ten years.

The topic of this year’s Academy was centred on how major global trends (such as demographic change, rapid urbanization, technology, climate change, polarisation of society) have the capacity to increase inequalities and disparities, and affect the quality of life, outlook, and well-being of communities in both rural and urban areas. In particular, the 2024 Summer Academy explored possible responses to  global trends through debate and the showcasing of examples of how cultural and creative interventions could help individuals and communities to bridge divisions and move towards a more equal society based on human potential. SACCI 2024 Programme here https://www.oecd.org/content/dam/oecd/en/about/programmes/cfe/oecd-trento-centre/2024-SACCI-agenda.pdf/_jcr_content/renditions/original./2024-SACCI-agenda.pdf
